India National Cricket Team Vs England Cricket Team Timeline

India and England’s cricket rivalry is one of the oldest rivalries in cricket that started way before India’s independence. India National Cricket Team Vs England Cricket Team Timeline began when India played its first international cricket match on June 25, 1932, against England. With its roots deep down in the quest to win India’s independence from the British Crown, the match was nothing short of a war for Indian cricketers.

England, the country that introduced cricket to India, dominated India in the initial period. However, with time, India developed its team and began posing tough challenges to England. From England displaying its prowess in the sport and defeating India continuously, leaving no marks of the Indian cricket team in the international arena to their iconic matches, both nations today are among the top cricket teams.

India and England have played cricket in all three formats, and they share a bitter-sweet rivalry as India learned the cricketing skills from England and has also won its most iconic matches against England only. One of the iconic battles between the two is the 1951-1952 India vs England Test series, which India won after playing Test matches for 20 years.

India and England began playing ODI matches in 1974, however, it was the 1981-1982 India vs England ODI match where Dilip Vengsarkar’s 88 runs not out led to India’s first ODI victory against England. The 1983 Prudential World Cup is a Milestone event in India’s cricket history, as it was India’s first Cricket World Cup win, and in this journey, India defeated England in the semi-final at Old Trafford by 6 wickets.

In 2007, India defeated England in the group stage of the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup, when Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes off Stuart Broad in a memorable over.
