KL Rahul missed the DC’s opener match against his former franchise, LSG, due to paternity leave. He is set to return for DC’s game against SRH.
In a recent turn of events, KL Rahul will play the second match of the Delhi Capitals against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. India’s wicket keeper-batsman missed the opening match of the Delhi Capitals against his former team, Lucknow Super Giants, due to the birth of his first child. On special permission from the Delhi Capitals management to skip the match at their adopted home ground Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty welcomed their baby girl on Monday. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, he will feature in the upcoming match against SRH just six days after his child’s birth.
Rahul has been in great form recently and was one of the star performers for India in the Champions Trophy in Dubai. However, he has been out of T20 action since failing to make the World Cup team last year, and he has already claimed that he hopes to regain his place in the T20I side, with India now focusing on the ICC T20 World Cup next year.
Despite being on leave, Rahul trained in Mumbai under the supervision of Abhishek Nayar, India’s assistant coach. He has now arrived in Vizag to play for the Delhi Capitals against SRH on March 30.
DC and Rahul had two reasons to celebrate, the first being the birth of his daughter, and the other was DC’s 1-wicket win in their first match of the season. After their win, they were seen congratulating and celebrating the baby girl in a unique cradle video. Led by skipper Axar Patel, the Delhi Capitals team prepared a universal ‘cradle’ gesture to welcome KL Rahul’s baby girl. Adding his own flair, Axa Patel said, “Aa le chak main aa gaya.”
The 32-year-old cricketer was signed by the DC for INR 14 Crore in the mega auction last November after he was not retained by the LSG, a franchise he captained for the last three seasons.
